Malling-Kawaz, a farmers’ creative expression of the Cebuano word ‘molingkawas’ which literally means to liberate – is the social enterprise arm of ACED Philippines, a national network of organized organic farmers in the country.
For the organic farmers, Malling-Kawaz strongly means to liberate themselves from the control of the traders and compradors, who for several decades already, took from them the large piece of the profit derived from the chain of organic products business that supposed to be benefited more by the farmers and their families.
For the consumers like many of us, Malling-Kawaz means to liberate ourselves from being dependent – physically and mentally – from shopping malls and supermarkets, which continue to push the small-scale farmers and local businesses to the peripheries.
Malling-Kawaz Store, therefore, provides the small-scale organic farmers with the right venue where they can sell their produce at fair price, and also the consumers with affordable organic produce – which altogether leads to long-term social and environmental benefits.
Created in 2020, Malling-Kawaz Store is under the direct supervision of the Social Enterprise Committee of ACED Philippines in Davao Region. Its members are the following:
